I recently saw the video above (click through to see) and it got me thinking about my own life.

When I was in high school I knew that I wanted to code. I actually tried to petition for the beginner’s programming class to be available because it was the one thing I couldn’t learn on my own even though I spent so long trying. Sadly, in my hometown there wasn’t much interest in it aside from my friends, and the lack of someone to teach it. This was actually the main reason I wanted to go to DigiPen because by the start you’re coding and I wanted to go to college to learn something.

For one, all of the math that you’re taught in high school would have immediately meant something other than something you’d have to learn for a test and forget right after. It helps you to solve problems and learn new solutions for things which helped me incredibly when I was working at LucasArts. It also builds a foundation to discovering, at least in my case, that I are the only thing holding myself back and if I put my mind to it, I could accomplish anything.

Learning how to code was one of the best decisions of my life, and I hope that more schools will offer coding courses.
